Corona auction 2020

It started at the beginning of what they called the 'intelligent' lockdown in March 2020... An idea in my head grew into a desire in my body. In what way could I possibly turn these surreal restrictions into a positive experience and a newly discovered freedom? Confined to the home, social activities cancelled, all that unexpected spare time... boredom just peeking around the corner. Outside my own bubble stories about loneliness, neglect, upcoming bankruptcies and insecure futures filled our world. Thoughts like "I am going to paint more" started to mix with others like "I am going to help those most affected by this crisis". I turned my idea for a 'corona art auction for charity' into action.

In total, a beautiful amount of EUR 2055,- was donated by me to Dutch charities like The Red Cross, Foundation The Forgotten Child, The Dutch Foodbank, Because We Carry en The National Foundation for the Elderly. Difficult, but also inspiring times were lifted just a tiny bit for a few people - thanks to those supporting this initiative and bidding on the unique paintings created by me during these times. Have a more detailed look below.

Five paintings, five auctions, five corona-related charities

"Open your window and look outside... what you see, they call history..."

This abstract painting is inspired by both the impact of the pandemic that we read about every day in the newspaper as well as the more relaxed acceptance worldwide of face coverings in public.
